We've seen tons of signs like these for Bubble Tea here, which we've never heard of before. Yesterday, my friend L and I finally decided to try some. Bubble tea is a Taiwanese tea drink that comes in all sorts of flavors and you can get them as fruit smoothies or just as iced tea.

The bubbles are called "pearls" and they're round black chewy gelatin or tapioca balls. They give you these thick straws so you can suck up the pearls at the bottom, which was really strange the first few sips. I got a strawberry smoothie one and L got a taro kind, which is their most popular...purple yam flavor. It sounds gross, but it was actually really good. We weren't brave enough to try the wheat germ flavored one though...maybe next time.
