Day by Day

We love living in the city, but daily tasks can be really wearing sometimes. Public transportation is our best friend...most of the time. The longer we're here, the better we get at knowing how to work the transit system. We have no shame in sprinting for anything that will take us where we need to go. But it is slightly humiliating when you sprint and the doors close right in your face and everyone on the train just stares (or laughs) at you. Especially when it's pouring down rain outside and you look like a wet dog.

We spend anywhere from two to three hours on public transit every day, sometimes more if we're traveling further. We only buy what we can carry home from the grocery store, so we usually end up stopping by the store every other day. Groceries are really expensive here, so we go to multiple stores for the best deals.

We have class almost every morning from 9-noon and spend the afternoon/evening time in the community, language study, and small groups. Thankfully, we usually don't have to leave the house until 8:30 in the morning, but we typically get home pretty late. We both have come from fairly structured work environments over the past few years, so we've had to adjust to a more flexible schedule in this urban setting. But we've really enjoyed figuring out how to get around without a car and meeting wonderful people along the way.
