In January, we went to a town just outside of Istanbul for two weeks so Russ could take a couple of classes to finish up his graduate program. We had a great time catching up with some really good friends. While we were there, we traveled into Istanbul for a day.
Grubbin' on a doner and a glass of çay for lunch.
Russ called these the "Mario Bros. mushroom" trees.
The Hagia Sophia.
Roasted chestnuts and corn on the cob are regulars here.
The courtyard of the Blue Mosque. It was closed for prayer time, so we didn't go in, but the inside is a beautiful blue mosaic.
These are views of the outer courtyard domes.
Starbucks!
We also went to the mega-mall called the Forum. It was the biggest mall we'd ever been in...five floors and complete with a touch screen store finder. This is how we found the Krispy Kreme.
The mall also had a random blue martian, so my friend S humored me with a picture.
