Sunday afternoon I took a ferry up to the big city by myself for a community development training and quite a ride it was. The weather had been cold, windy and rainy all day, which probably meant that I should have taken a bus instead. Ten minutes after the ferry left, the waters got really rough and the boat became a roller coaster...literally. The ferry staff handed out barf bags to everyone on board. *Personal note about barf bags: they should be solid colors, not see through...no one enjoys seeing food in a bag after it's already been eaten.*
People started losing it (pun intended) left and right. I had the unfortunate luck of sitting near the bathroom (which by the way, does not smell better with floral spray). People were lying down on the floor, some were crying, and a lady behind me had a panic attack and started screaming. It was a small ferry, so when the bow of the boat dipped, water flew over the boat and came crashing down in the back. The whole thing was surreal and now that it's over, quite comical. I managed to make it, my lunch in tact somehow, to dry land 3.5 hours later. What an odd adventure.
